dj M. – Lesson#65

A new mixtape/dj set is online… recorded as part of the Radio Resistencia show for Intergalactic FM for June (2016)…

This mix features some contemporary folklore sounds as well as ambient/drone pieces but also post-industrial/ritual music… a dark trip for your ears only…

dj M. – Lesson#63

Here is the mix(tape / dj set I did for the Radio Resistencia session for April (episode 63)… it is dark trip built spiritual, occult and ritual music… blending psychedelic, modern classical, experimental, ambient and (post-) industrial stuff…

Ocean Floor and Father Murphy

Recently I added the absolute great releases by Belgian label B.A.A.D.M. to the webshop… especially the Frederik Croene record is one I simply love… it is a piece of dark and haunting organ music…

oceanfloor_cvrIn that vein I have some other records waiting to go online… one of them is by Ocean Floor… a project from Bristol… the “Jupiter” album was released on tape first and is now available on vinyl… the music on the album is lighter and less dark as the Frederik Croene… mostly due to fact no church organ was used but an harmonium… which is a small chamber size organ… “Jupiter” is a blending of electronic and the sound of the harmonium… resulting in spacious sound tapestries… it is psychedelic and trippy in the same way as the krautrock/kosmische scene music by (early) Tangerine Dream… and yes the  influence of this legendary band is very clear… but still “Jupiter” is an amazing album…

Next to that I have some copies of the new 10″ by Father Murphy… an Italian band which has been making music for over a decade… and I must admit that I only came across them recently on the “Nostra Signora delle Tenebre” compilation by Backwards… on which their piece was one of the highlights…

fathermurphy_cvrNow there is this new 10″… with music which is reminiscent of early Coil in some way… mixed with some elements of Duhkha/Bex… so expect some post-industrial music hinting at various styles and genres… dark occult psychedelic stuff… quite unique… and both tracks are a true listening experience…

Here is one piece by Ocean Floor…

And here is one of the two pieces from the Father Murphy 10″…

new dj set / mixtape online

I uploaded the dj set I did for the January episode of Radio Resistencia on my mixcloud… it is a trip into ritual, spiritual and occult atmospheres with music ranging from post-industrial music to experimental folk inspired tunes to modern classical stuff…

new dj set / mixtape

I posted a new dj set / mixtape on my mixcloud a few days ago… and it seems some music lovers and listeners out there like it a lot… it is a mix featuring post-industrial, elektro, techno and trippy (modular) synth stuff…

This mix was recorded as part of an episode for Radio Resistencia which is narrowcasted every first monday of the month on Intergalatic FM at IFM1 from 22.00 set onwards…

Here is the mix:

Radio Resistencia with live Europ Europ and Diverting Duo

RR_logoSunday 22nd of November there will be a new Radio Resistencia session in the  afternoon. This time with Europ Europ from Norway and Diverting Duo from Italy.

Europ Europ is of course no stranger to followers of Enfant Terrible and listeners of Radio Resistencia alike… Europ Europ has performed before at a radio recording session and of course quite some music from these Norwegian post-industrialists was released through ET…

Diverting Duo is a shoegaze/new wave/indie outfit from Italy… dream pop is another genre name fitting their music…

Below this post a song/video from Diverting Duo and below that one of Europ Europ…

We start as always at 15.00 hour CET and I will put on the last tune around 18.00 hour CET… entrance is free and drinks are cheap… all of this takes place at Kapitaal in the centre of Utrecht… see you there (if you are around)!

Horizon – 16 October – live: Ian Martin + Neugeborene Nachtmusik + Bare Bones, Lay Low

On friday the 16th of October I play some tunes together with dj Down The Rabbit Hole at an event organised by him/Ordo Viatorum… which is also a new label starting soon… run by dj Down The Rabbit Hole and Neugeborene Nachtmusik…

Performing live that night are Neugeborene Nachtmusik… check his debut LP which was released earlier this year and Ian Martin… part of Kaval of course… but probably more famous for his elektro/psych electronic music… the third live act is Bare Bones, Lay Low… doing his weird and trippy (lo-fi) psychedelic stuff…

Summer Is Almost Gone

gooiland_MKII_backIt seems summer is almost gone… but it also means I am back on track with all Enfant Terrible activities… and I am very happy to announce that the three delayed Gooiland Elektro records by FOQL, FFFC and Monocorpse are now ready… I will start shipping from monday 24th of August onwards…

The waiting has been worth it as the records look amazing and sound great in my opinion… it means a break with the previous Gooiland Elektro output but in someways it is a continuation too of course… it is for you to find out in what way and such…

You can order the record here…  or from various selected (web)shops soon…

Also I recorded a dj set of about one hour for the French internet radio station Radio S&SR… my set start at 1:01:11 (the first hour is by the resident dj of the radio show)… you can listen to it here… all kinds of old school and new school (post) industrial sounds… sorry for the jingles of the radio station interrupting the trip I prepared for you…

Enjoy the last days of summer!

New exciting sounds: Duhkha and Weather Report

Duhkha_cvrFor the adventurous listeners out there recently two absolute stunning records came out… and the funny thing is neither of these amazing pieces of music were composed… and I am not a big fan of improvisational music most of the time… this as it often lacks a real narrative in my opinion… or maybe I just listen to the wrong improvisational music?

Anyway the Duhkha debut LP “Mariyammal” is not a real piece of improvisation music… the description on the website of the new label label Idéoblaste which released the record states that the project was created and curated by Benjamin Bex… I hope you remember his excellent album “Rosegger”… but… curated… that is an interesting approach to create music… and one I can totally understand… as I think about the work for my label also as being that one of a curator… especially for the compilation albums…

Benjamin Bex has for the Duhkha project recorded mechanical sound machines (by an artist called Pierre Cordeeff) and cello improvisations (by musician Nathalie Ponneau). Next to that two turntablism artists contributed a soundscape and another musician shared some real time audio synthesis… Bex then assembled and reworked all of this and added acoustic guitar, piano and vocals…

This sounds all very artistic and it is… but often these kind of pretentious projects end with music most people do not understand and/or cannot enjoy at all… and that is maybe the best part about this record… as the result is simply mind blowing music!

I am sure you can imagine it is hard to describe the exact sound and all of this record… but think of  a mix of (60’s) modern classical music and the weird post-industrial pop tunes of Europ Europ… it is not only the voice of Bex which reminds me of Europ Europ… it is also the scratching sounds and dissonant elements… the mechanical part is evident as you feel like the music could be operated by one big weird old machine (Intonarumori?) which is hand controlled by some sort of steering wheel… and this is why it also reminds me at times of the music created with a bicycle by Good Cop / Naughty Cop…

This album is a true experience… music you need to listen to with attention… music which demands you to listen to with attention…

weatherreport_cvrThe same goes for the improvisational album “Weather Report” by Rinji Fukuoka, Michel Henritzi and Luca Massolin… I must admit I never heard of these musicians before…

“Weather Report” could have been composed music as it is hard to believe that an improvisation could lead to such a strong narrative and experience… like the Duhkha album the music at times reminds me of Good Cop / Naughty Cop… due to some sounds which come across as created by some sort of mechanical machine… like a bike for example…

On the other hand this album could appeal to people who like the last Dirty Beaches album “Stateless”… only “Weather Report” has more layers and is more complex… and due to this it is also less typical ambient music which could fade away to the background… the two long pieces are evolving all the time and is pulling you in never to let loose until the music stops…

These two records will get you through summer without boring you for a second! I have a few copies for sale of both at Enfant Terrible webshop
